- Uganda gained independence from Britain in 1962, maintaining its Commonwealth membership.
- INDUSTRIES: Cotton, coffee, tea, sugar, tobacco and textiles.
- Uganda is landlocked. The south of the country includes a substantial portion of Lake Victoria. The center is dominated by Lake Kyoga.
- The official language is English, although many other languages are spoken in Uganda.
- Common currency used is Uganda shillings but also USD are common in bigger places like hotels or banks.
- The capital city is Kampala with over 2 million people and located 40km from the international airport i.e Entebbe Airport. It takes about a 1 hour drive to get there.
OUR CULTURE
Uganda is a multi-ethnic country with many tribes and languages. The common tribes include the Baganda, Iteso, Basoga, Banyankore, Banyarwanda, Bakiga, Lango, Acholi, Lugbara, Banyoro, Batoro, Karamojong.
The official language is English, although many other languages are spoken in Uganda.

FOOD
Ugandan food is the arguably the best in Africa. Only in Uganda will you find places that can give you variety of fresh food as compared to other countries, they include yummy banana dishes, stews, pastes and juicy fruits and drinks.
The most popular local dish is matooke (bananas of the plantain type) which is best served with peanut sauce, fresh fish, meat or entrails. Matooke really goes with any relish.
Most of the highly ranked hotels and restaurants serve traditional dishes in form of buffets but often come within a short distance of really preparing authentic traditional dishes.

The greater part of Uganda consists of a plateau. Along the western border are the Rwenzori Mountains. The eastern frontier is dominated by Mount Elgon, while the Western Rift Valley runs from north to south through the western
